STANDARD 5:                        Participation & Integration

 

Dandenong Valley Job Support Inc. recognises that each person with a disability is supported and encouraged to participate and be involved in the community. DVJS acknowledges that the most contributing factor for a person with a disability to participate in the wider community is obtaining employment or training for consumers that meet their work interests, work capacities and goals.

 

Dandenong Valley Job Support Inc. will ensure that it contributes to individual outcomes for consumers that progressively builds opportunities for their participation and involvement in the community through employment in the following ways?

 

Ø  To ?match? consumers to positions that not only suit their work interests, work capacities and goals but also considers the social environment of the work place such as the age, gender and nationalities of the persons currently working there.

 

Ø  Provision of support and training to the consumers work colleagues and management in how to work alongside the consumer and assist them become a valuable long-term employee.

 

Ø  Provision of interpreters to assist consumers from Non-English speaking backgrounds access job opportunities.

 

Ø  Provision of workplace modification funding (available through the Commonwealth) to assist people who require something to be modified at their place of work.

 

Ø  Assistance with skill based short term training courses at TAFE and other training providers in the community to enable the consumer to gain skills to enter their chosen field of employment.

 

Ø  Consumers are sent quarterly newsletters informing them what is happening at DVJS and ?what?s on? in the local community such as special events, participating in sporting clubs etc.

 

Ø  Working consumers are invited to participate in post-employment meetings where they can discuss what is happening in their lives with others who may have similar life experiences.

 

Ø  Consumers are encouraged to undertake their own job searching via DVJS computers, where they can access the internet for job search or update their CV etc.
