STANDARD 12 Protection of Human Rights and Freedom from Abuse This policy formally recognises that the agency must act to prevent abuse and neglect and to uphold the legal and human rights of consumers. Dandenong Valley Job Support Inc. will ensure that it takes all practical and appropriate steps to prevent abuse and neglect of its consumers and that it upholds the legal and human rights of people with a disability by? Ø Regular monitoring of consumers at their workplaces to ensure that their employer upholds the legal and human rights of people with disabilities. Ø Regular contact by Maintenance to ensure the consumer continues to be satisfied at work. Ø Provision of staff legislative training in areas such as Industrial Relations, Occupational Health & Safety Act and others as required in order for staff to understand when an employer has abused the rights of the consumer. When an act of abuse has been identified or reported by the consumer, DVJS will immediately investigate the matter and upon confirmation, seek legal advice and contact the relevant and appropriate authorities to act for and on behalf of the consumer. If the consumer is not in a financial position to fund legal actions required, then DVJS will either fund or seek funding to provide such assistance. Note: If an act of abuse has been reported by the consumer to DVJS and upon investigation it is evident that the consumer has either misunderstood or not told the truth, DVJS will make every effort for the consumer to understand the nature of their claim and to resolve it. In the event that the ?claim? cannot be resolved, DVJS may withdraw support to the consumer and may assist the other party concerned to quickly resolve the matter. |
