It is natural for you to be hesitant about employing job seekers with disabilities but rest assured we will only present you with people who can or have the potential to do your job eventually as well as any other person. We dont want to set up anyone for failure so we would not put someone in a job that was unrealistic!
Companies not only benefit from employing people with disabilities by having workers who are motivated & able to do the job but they are also eligible to receive generous wage subsidised programs to assist with the initial costs when hiring any new employee. Most companies feel great knowing that they have helped someone disadvantaged & this is often how others perceive their business in their local community. Employing a disabled worker is good business sense.
Employers can receive generous wage subsidy to assist with the initial training of the disabled worker.
Standard Wage Subsidy – $1500
Restart Wage Subsidy – Up to $10,000 (mature age 50+)
You could say a Traineeship is a mini-apprenticeship; that is, a combination of work & training which takes place over one to two years. During this time, the worker is paid a training wage. In some case training takes place "off-the-job" by a registered training provider, in some cases the learning is done "on-the-job" with the employer monitoring the progress of the employee. The employee has to attain particular competencies before completing the Traineeship. Traineeships are available both part time & full time. A subsidy is available to employers who employ a trainee (this varies depending on their length of unemployment or degree of disadvantage).
If a person requires modifications to the workplace to enable them to perform the job, 100% funding for the modification may be available from the Commonwealth Government. Note: The vast majority of people with a disability require no modifications.
DVJS will apply for funding on your behalf.
DAWS is paid to an employer who takes on an apprentice with a disability (apprentices can be of any age depending on industrial awards).
The SWS is designed to provide financial assistance to employers who hire people with a disability who are unable to maintain full productivity due to their disability. Employers are thereby legally able to pay sub-award productivity-based wages (between 10-90% of the award rate).
